Gurappa Auty's Story

In a busy, big city, full of fast-paced progress and frantic activity, it seems strange to find a neighbourhood that seems to have been forgotten by time. The sense of stagnation and shattered dreams seems thick in the air. It is here that you will find Gurappa Auty and his family, eking out a living in a harsh urban landscape.

Over 15 years ago, Gurappa Auty first set foot in Bangalore, a city that promised endless possibilities for a brighter life, but failed to live up to that promise. Working as a security guard, he barely manages to pay the monthly rent of Rs 6000, for his appallingly small room, which is not even remotely suited for a family of four. He dreams, of someday, being able to own a home and send his children to school.
